How to Effectively Use Tape and Tube Simulation

Date:2020/3/7 11:35:23 Hits:

Tape and tube simulation plug-ins such as Avid’s Reel Tape Saturation for Pro Tools, are increasingly popular for lending digital tracks a more organic feel, and to help “glue” a mix together by smoothing out rough frequencies. And such plug-ins are great for that — these simulations in the right circumstances can give just the right midrange boost, slight treble roll off, and subtle compression that can bring out the best in a track and a mix.

However, be careful not to overdo it. A common mistake is to believe that if a little is good, a lot must be better. Or, to decide that the effect isn’t audible in the full mix, best to turn it way up, just to be sure. Too much of a good thing, in this case, can make your mix mid-heavy, over compressed, and dull. This is one of those effects that when done right, you’ll feel it.
