How to Build a TV Antenna for Free

Date:2015/1/29 11:00:57 Hits:
TV stations use a broadcast tower to transmit television signals to homes for free. You can build a digital TV antenna that will receive these signals so that you can watch free TV on your high-definition television set. You will need a few supplies commonly found around the home along with an antenna taken off any old radio or portable boom box you have lying around. No special electronic skills are needed to build your free TV antenna.

Things You'll Need
Coaxial cable, 6 feet long
Paper clip
Radio antenna
Utility knife
Wire cutters
Wire strippers
Ruler
Soldering iron
Solder
Electrical tape
TV

Instructions
1.Straighten out a paperclip with your fingers. Insert an end of the paperclip through the hole in the metal plate at the bottom of the radio antenna. Bend the end over the metal plate with your fingers.

2.Cut off an end of the coaxial cable with the wire cutters. Make a 4-inch slit in the outer insulation with the blade of the utility knife. Pull the outer insulation off from the inner sheath.

3.Make a 1-inch slit in the inner sheath with the blade of the utility knife. Pull the inner wire out of the inner sheath.

4.Solder the end of the inner wire to the free end of the paperclip. Let the solder cool for a minute. Wrap a strip of electrical tape around the end of the paperclip where it meets the inner wire. Wrap a strip of electrical tape around the inner wire where it exits the inner sheath.

5.Plug the coaxial connector on the end of the coaxial cable into the coaxial connection on the back or side of the TV. Stand the digital antenna you have made next to the TV.
