What Is a Channel Master Preamp?

Date:2014/11/21 11:50:16 Hits:
Channel Master preamplifiers connect antennas and receivers to boost the power of the signal that comes out of the antenna, for better reception. They are relatively simple devices, featuring two coaxial connectors and a power connector. If you live in an area where you have a weak signal, though, they can make a much bigger difference than their simple appearance may indicate.

Preamplifier Applications

Channel Master preamplifiers are designed to boost weak signals. They take an external power input and use it to magnify what the antenna to which they are connected picks up. These preamps are best used in areas where you can pick up a signal, but where the signal is too weak for adequate picture quality.

Connecting the Preamp

The preamp is designed to be mounted directly to the mast of an antenna, with the antenna cable connected directly to its coaxial input terminal. The output terminal serves two purposes. It sends the signal to a television or a set-top box, and it accepts a power feed for the amplifier's internal circuitry. The power feed comes from a power inserter that converts wall power to low-voltage direct current and sends it back to the amplifier over its output cable.

Preamplifier Drawbacks

A Channel Master preamplifier doesn't just increase the size of television signals. It amplifies everything that the amplifier picks up. If you have a clean signal that is too weak, it can make a significant difference. When you have a noisy signal that is affected by interference, though, it will also amplify the interference and can actually make the situation worse.

The Company

ChannelMaster has been in business since 1949, when the company released its first product -- an already-assembled analog television antenna. Since then, the company has expanded its line of products. Now, the ChannelMaster company offers both analog and digital equipment that helps computers, televisions and other equipment receive television and other radio signals.
