How to Reamp Digitally Using the Kemper Profiling Amplifier

Date:2020/3/7 10:42:11 Hits:

The Kemper Profiling Amplifier is one of the most exciting digital guitar processors to be released in the last couple of years. By taking “profiles” of guitar and bass amplifiers, it can capture the sound of a rig the way few other devices can. And all in the digital domain!

One of the great things about the KPA being digital is that you can re-amp — meaning send your unprocessed tracks from your DAW out to your KPA and back into your DAW — without ever needing to go through digital-analog and analog-digital conversion.

To re-amp digitally using the KPA, you’ll need an audio interface with S/PDIF digital connectivity. Connect the S/PDIF output of the KPA to the S/PDIF input of your audio interface, and then the S/PDIF output of your audio interface to the S/PDIF input of your KPA.

In your DAW, set the output of your unprocessed guitar track to your audio interface’s S/PDIF output channel. You’ll also need to record-enable a new track in your DAW, with the input set to your audio interface’s S/PDIF input channel.

And that’s it! You’re ready to use your KPA as your outboard guitar processor completely in the digital domain. Keep in mind that your KPA must be the system master, and it only supports 24-bit, 44.1kHz sample rate.
