Home Studio Tip: Use a Patchbay

Date:2020/3/7 10:37:24 Hits:

With hardware synthesizers, beatboxes, processors, preamps, and so on, better and more affordable than ever, it’s possible to assemble an enviable home studio filled with inspiring musical tools. And when that inspiration hits, the last thing you want to do is spend time hooking up your gear to your audio interface. Ideally, everything would be plugged in all the time. However having an audio interface with enough inputs and outputs for every piece of gear when you only ever record a one or two stereo signals at a time may be overkill.

This is where high quality, patch bays come in. With a patch bay, you keep all of your gear plugged into the rear jacks of the bay. Then when inspiration hits and you need to rewire your gear, use the bay’s front jacks to connect the inputs of your audio interface to the specific patch points on your patch bay for the gear you want to record. The process takes seconds, at most, and will give you instant access to your entire studio.
