Meet the MOTU 8M, 1248, and 16A
Date:2020/3/6 11:36:15 Hits:
Great sound, onboard DSP, effects, networking, wireless control — not things you’re used to hearing about an interface, but that’s exactly what MOTU’s latest hybrid interfaces offer. With three different I/O versions, they all share the same core with hybrid Thunderbolt/USB 2.0 connections, up to 24-bit/192kHz conversion, a mixer application that uses powerful onboard DSP, and ADAT connectivity. The 8M gives you eight combo XLR/line inputs, ideal for project and home studios. The 1248 has four preamps, eight line inputs, two dedicated DI inputs, and two headphone outputs for a great tracking room solution. If you use vintage or modern analog preamps, or have a 500 Series chassis full of compressors and other outboard gear, then the 16 x 16 line-level input and output sections of the 16A are perfect for your studio. Individually, any of these interfaces would make a great center of any size recording rig, but the MOTU magic with the Thunderbolt hybrids happens when you put them all together using AVB.
Continuing their tradition of groundbreaking, expandable audio, MOTU added AVB over Ethernet connectivity to the Thunderbolt hybrid interfaces to allow you to connect MOTU hybrids and other AVB-equipped gear together for a powerful, scalable system that suits any recording needs you might have. By simply connecting the units with a Cat 5e cable, you create an audio network, and the additional channels and I/O options of the second interface show up inside the mixer application right alongside the existing ones. Since all of this happens within the mixer app, and because you’re using onboard DSP for effects, mixing, and routing, you have the potential for building a wirelessly controllable live sound rig with studio-quality recording capabilities — all without adding any other gear. And with Thunderbolt connectivity, it happens without the worry of latency.
If you’ve been thinking about making a change in your recording systems, take the time to check out the MOTU Thunderbolt hybrid interfaces, and you’ll discover the impact MOTU can have on the way you record.
