How Should I Aim my Studio Monitors?

Q: I always have heard that studio monitors should be set up so that they form an equilateral triangle with the engineer’s head. But does that mean that the two speakers should point at your ears? At your nose? Where should they be aimed?

A: We have found that we get the best results aiming the tweeters of our studio monitors at a point slightly behind our heads. This way, the direct beam from the tweeter sort of shoots past your ears rather than aiming straight for them. We find this gives good stereo imaging, as well as excellent detail in the top end.
