How can I Play an Analog Synth Module If It Doesn’t have MIDI?

Date:2020/2/7 18:28:34 Hits:

Before the days of MIDI and MIDI controllers, synthesizers were operated using control voltages (CV). You would patch a cable between the keyboard controller’s CV output and the CV input of the analog synthesizer module, and changes in voltage sent from the controller would cause changes in one or more parameters of the synth module.

While today, nearly all synth modules — even analog synth modules — are MIDI capable. Some are not, of course, and there are still plenty of “vintage” non-MIDI synths out there that don’t have MIDI but offer control voltage support. To take charge of these control-voltage/non-MIDI devices, here are a number of modern controllers made by the Arturia, Korg, and others, that offer CV outputs, often in addition to MIDI and/or USB outputs.
