I would highly recommend this unit for a studio or a keyboardist looking to add that old-school Moog sound to their rig.

The Little Phatty is a bit deceiving out of the box. It’s a relatively small and lightweight unit, almost seeming like a toy. But the build quality is great and the keys have a nice feel to them. The I/O of the unit is straightforward, having one audio in, one audio out, MIDI In/Out, USB, and three CV controls. I plugged the Phatty into the instrument input of an Avalon VT-737SP on high gain mode with no compression or EQ. Listening through my Mackie HR824s, I was floored. Just the amount of sound, along with the depth and clarity, was amazing!

For those who still have a desire for true analog sound, this takes the cake with its 100% analog circuitry. In my opinion, no plug-in can match the sound of this unit. It’s the real deal! The presets out of the box are, for the most part, useful and a good starting point. Being a novice to the lead analog synth world, I found the layout logical, following the circuitry from beginning to end across the synth. The big toggle pushbuttons are easy to read and what they do is obvious. There’s not much of a learning curve with this as long as you have a basic understanding of how an analog synth works, and what each part of the circuit accomplishes. The fine tuning knob is useful for tweaking sounds.

Overall, I would highly recommend this unit for a studio or a keyboardist looking to add that old-school Moog sound to their rig. I know that I could play around with this unit for hours as the possibilities are virtually endless.
