The Largest Guitar Effect Pedalboard in the World – Yeah, We Did It!

Date:2020/1/9 11:25:56 Hits:

In July 2019, YouTube guitarist Rob Scallon and a handful of the world’s top effects pedal designers joined up with Sweetwater Sound to head to The Clyde Theatre with a single mission — to build the world’s largest guitar pedalboard. Some thought it couldn’t be done, and some thought it would sound like a swirling torrent of noise. But in the end, with 319 effects pedals on 34 pedalboards connected with 500 feet of cable, the record would be won. And after extreme documentation, it was officially recognized as a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS? title achievement for the Largest Guitar Effect Pedalboard.

Of course, a gargantuan effects pedal rig like this deserves to be played through something massive. Determined to be heard from the next county over, we plugged this massive pedalboard into seven Marshall DSL100HR 100-watt tube amplifier heads, themselves driving 14 Marshall MX412BR 4×12″ speaker cabinets. It’s a ridiculously powerful amplifier rig that no guitarist could resist rocking with. It also put the sonic spotlight on every aspect of this monster pedalboard, demanding that noise and hum be kept to a minimum. Against all odds, the team succeeded.

So how many guitarists does it take to build the World’s Largest Pedalboard? We lost count, but big thanks go out to the pedal designers that helped us make this dream a reality — Robert Keeley of Keeley Electronics, Josh Scott of JHS Pedals, Brian Wampler of Wampler Pedals, and Ryan Dyck of Temple Audio. There were lots of Sweetwater hands on deck as well. Those who answered the call to wire up this beautiful beast included Andrew Plassman, Shawn Dealey, Ben Porter, Charlie Davis, David Hess, Robert Williams, Geoff Allen, Philip Courtney, and Dave Dunsire. YouTube guitarist Rob Scallon and his crew helped with the massive assembly project too.

This is the most gargantuan functioning pedalboard the world has ever seen — or heard. It could only happen at Sweetwater, with generous help from our partners. And it even sounded good!
