SETH GODIN'S PODCAST TO AIR ON WCKG CHICAGO

Date:2015/1/22 10:55:12 Hits:
Futurist, marketer and media critic Seth Godin is bringing his Start Up School podcast to Chicago radio on WCKG-AM. WCKG will also begin airing the Entrepreneur On Fire podcast hosted by John Lee Duma. The move to terrestrial radio for both Godin and Duma is a first. Godin and Duma are smart programing additions to WCKG, still, you have to wonder what may have changed Godin's mind about terrestrial radio. In a blog post last November, Godin caught a lot of press and heat from broadcasters with his post, An End of Radio.
Seth Godin responded to Radio Ink's inquires regarding his addition to WCKG and offered up some further amplification of his End of Radio post from November. Specifically Radio Ink asked Godin to clarify his blog comments in light of the WCKG pickup. Why he would want to be a part of a medium that he believes is on a "spiral down," and why he decided to become a part of broadcast radio if, "just as newspapers fell off a cliff, radio is about to follow." Godin said, "I fear you're misunderstanding my post. I wasn't predicting the future of radio, merely the delivery method and the betting on mass. My WCKG 'addition' is a rebroadcast of a podcast I did. He asked nicely, I said yes. Wouldn't you?" Godin continues, "I think going for the niches (as WCKG appears to have the guts and the resources to do) is brilliant. I think trying to be more average than everyone else isn't working for the long run, not on TV, not in magazines, not on broadcast radio. Are there smart people in your industry who disagree with that?"
Godin tells Radio Ink he's actually a fan of radio and that, "some people think I'm rooting for radio to go away. In fact, it's the opposite. I love radio and audio so much that I'm rooting for the experts in the field to take advantage of a post-spectrum future, and fast, to lead the people who care to listen to ever more important and resonant work. Personal, local and urgent still work."
WCKG Owner Matt Dubiel comments on the additions to the station, "There is no shortage of talent or great relevant content...It's just not where everyone else in broadcasting has been looking for the last forty years. I'm grateful Seth Godin and John Lee Dumas were willing to take my call and join this adventure!"
