How to Set Up a Private FM Radio Station
Date:2014/8/20 10:06:25 Hits:
If you've ever tried to set up a wireless home speaker system or stream Internet radio from your home PC, you know how difficult it can be to deal with a tangled mess of wires. Fortunately, there's an alternative: you can set up your own personal FM station and tune the radios in your house to listen in! Personal FM transmitters are the same technology you may have used in an older car to connect an mp3 player, scaled up for residential usage.Things You'll Need:
* FM radio with manual tuner
* Personal FM transmitter
* CD player
* 1/8" (3.5mm) extension cables
Instructions
1.Turn on the FM radio and slowly tune it along the dial. Listen for static --- areas where other radio stations aren't broadcasting and won't compete. Consider starting your search at the very lowest end of the dial.
2.Write down the frequency indicated by the FM radio and leave the radio on.
3.Plug in the personal FM transmitter and turn it on. Follow the instructions in the manual to tune it to the exact frequency you discovered earlier. You may now hear dead air instead of static from the radio.
4.Connect the FM transmitter's 1/8" (3.5mm) plug into the "line out" or "headphones" jack of the CD player. Turn the CD player on and put your favorite CD in it --- listen for the sound of the music coming from the FM radio. If necessary, tune the FM radio to bring the song in more clearly.
5.Unplug the FM transmitter. Find an area of the house where it will be centrally located and able to reach all the radios you plan on listening in with. You may have to use some 1/8" extension cables to get the FM transmitter to reach your audio source, such as a home theater PC.
6.Plug the FM transmitter in again and make sure it continues to display the appropriate frequency.
