How to Build a FM Stereo Transmitter

Date:2014/8/13 11:49:50 Hits:
Building your own FM stereo transmitter is a great way to lessen your reliance on aesthetically unpleasing wires. It is, however, a complex project as the stereo signal has to be modulated, or woven together with a carrier wave. Many kits are available, though all will require some soldering to connect the components. However all the hard work will be worth it once your iPod or microphone is wireless and broadcasting to your speakers.

Instructions

1.Clear a workspace for you to assemble the FM stereo transmitter. The kit will have many pieces that can be easily lost, and searching for a missing piece can derail the assembly process. Take the pieces out of the box: you should have an audio cable port, an antenna, a battery bay, a circuit board with circuit and a casing for the entire kit.

2.Place the circuit board down in the center and attach the audio cable plug in port. Some kits allow the port to slide into a receptacle by hand while other need to be soldered. If so, place your safety goggles on first, then solder the audio wires coming from the circuit board to the two contacts on the audio cable port. The red wire goes to the red contact post, and the black wire goes to the black wire post.

3.Connect the power wire to the battery bay by plugging it in by hand. The power wire will have two wires that join the the same plug, and the plug goes into the port on the battery bay. The antenna will plug into the antenna connectors. Most kits have spring-loaded clip ports that hold the antenna cables, while others require soldering. If so, solder one wire to each contact labeled antenna. Use the smallest amount of solder as possible to avoid any cross connections or damaging the circuits.

4.Place the plastic casing over the assembled FM stereo transmitter. Most kits have friction clips that hold the sections together, while others may be screwed together with screws. Attach the casing and then plug the FM stereo transmitter into the audio device with an audio cable.
