DIY FM Transmitters
Date:2014/7/25 9:29:27 Hits:
An FM transmitter provides a way to connect an external car stereo device to the vehicle's factory or aftermarket stereo deck. You can play MP3 players or satellite radio receivers by connecting the FM transmitter to the stereo and connecting the device to the FM transmitter. You can choose to have the FM transmitter connected to your vehicle's head unit by a professional car audio technician, or you can do it yourself to save the cost of labor.Instructions
1.Lift the vehicle's hood and disconnect the negative battery cable from the negative terminal with a pair of pliers or adjustable wrench. Move to the inside of the vehicle.
2.Remove the factory stereo from the vehicle's stereo mounting dock in the dashboard. Consult the service or repair manual for stereo removal instructions for your specific vehicle.
3.Disconnect the stereo wiring from the back of the factory head unit. Plug the factory stereo wiring connectors into the wiring harness adapter. Plug the wiring harness adapter lead connectors into the FM transmitter outlets.
4.Plug the FM transmitter connectors into the corresponding outlets on the back of the stereo deck. Feed the FM transmitter input cable into the glove compartment adjacent to the stereo dock or down into the storage compartment under the stereo. Place the main box of the transmitter in the back of the stereo dock.
5.Slide the stereo back into the vehicle's stereo mounting dock and replace the panels and screws or bolts as directed in the repair manual. Return to the vehicle's engine compartment.
6.Replace the negative battery cable clamp onto the negative battery terminal. Tighten the bolt on the cable's clamp with the wrench or pliers and close the hood.
7.Turn the vehicle on and tune the radio to the frequency provided in the FM transmitter's manual (also printed on the transmitter itself depending on the model). Connect the external device to the FM transmitter's input cable connector.
