How to Install an FM Modulator Antenna Direct Connection

Date:2014/3/14 16:10:37 Hits:
FM modulators allow you to use your antenna input in your car to run an extra line into the radio. This means you can plug in an MP3 player, DVD player or just have an auxiliary input to plug anything that uses a 3.5mm audio out. Many cars now come with the auxiliary input but if yours does not, the FM modulator may be the next best thing apart from installing an entirely new radio. The installation, while it may sound difficult, is very straightforward.

Instructions:

1.Turn off your vehicle and locate the dashboard bezel that surrounds your radio. Pop it off by grasping it firmly and pulling up and out. All cars are different so check with the car manual for how exactly to remove the dashboard bezel.

2.Unscrew the radio from its mounting brackets and place the screws aside. Most vehicles have four screws that mount the radio to the bracket. Remove your radio carefully, making sure that you do not pull any wires out. Remove the large black cord going into the radio. This is the antenna input. Remove the other two wire harnesses which are both power harnesses. This will allow you to completely unhook your radio from the vehicle. Place the radio aside.

3.Go to www.modifiedlife.com/car-stereo-wiring-diagram and select the car manufacturer and your model from the list that appears. A list of your car's wires will be displayed. Locate the “Accessory Switched 12v+” and you will see what color that wire is. Locate that wire from one of the two wire harnesses you unhooked in step 2. Strip that wire about a half an inch and splice your FM modulator’s power wire around the exposed wire. Wrap it with electrical tape.

4.Insert your black antenna wire into the FM modulator and connect the opposite end into the radio. Drop the wires into dashboard, making sure they are covered and out of the way. Drop the audio in wire into a hole that comes out underneath the dash. Finally, drop the power switch through an opening. Place the radio back into the mounting bracket and screw it into place. Place the dash bezel back on. Your FM modulator is now installed. Turn it on using the power switch and go to FM 89.1 to test it out.
