How to Make My Own Radio Station From Home
Until the advent of the internet, creating your own home radio station required expensive hardware equipment. Now you can make your own radio station by broadcasting it over the internet through websites like Live 365 or Last FM which allow users to create online radio stations for free. Use this guide to get you started on your broadcast.
Instructions
Create an Online Radio Station
1.Create an account at a radio station directory website following the sites instructions on registration.
2.Log-in to your online account and click the "Create Station" button. The site will ask you to create a name and genre for your station. Sites like Live 365 allow you to create whatever genre you want for your station. Type a name for your radio station into the designated field. Select a genre from the site's genre list or create your own.
3.Look for the "Upload Tracks" button in your account menu. The website may require your songs to be in .mp3 or .wav format before they can be uploaded to the site. Click the "Browse" button and select the tracks you want uploaded. Click "OK" and wait while the tracks upload. Repeat this step until you have uploaded all tracks you want to use for your station.
4.Click the "Playlist" button in your account's main menu to create a play list for your broadcast. Type a name for your play list in the appropriate field. Select the "Library" or "Add Tracks" button and select the tracks you want in the list. The site will allow you to arrange the tracks you've uploaded in the order you want. Click the "Save" button.
5.Broadcast your play list on the station. Click the "Broadcast" button and listen to your radio station.
Grow Your Radio Station's Audience
6.Interview guests on your show. Call or email music groups or people of interest that you would want to interview on-air. If the person has a following they will bring a built-in audience to your radio station.
7.Click the link in the resources section to visit the Onlywire website. Click the "Sign up" button and fill out the form. Enter the URL link to your radio stations web site.
Onlywire will automatically submit your website to dozens of social media sites like Digg, Delicious, Reddit, and Tumblr. All of these websites can increase your web traffic and audience.
8.List your station on radio directory websites. Radio directories act as online yellow pages for web radio stations. Visit sites like Radio Tower and Stream Finder. Click the "Submit" or "Share" button on the sites and enter your radio station's URL.
