How to Hook Up the Antenna to a Short Wave Radio
Date:2014/10/21 11:43:49 Hits:
Short-wave radios are dependent upon an antenna to pick up signals from broadcasting stations. Though portable, short-wave radios will typically use an extendable whip antenna; home stations are built to be used with external antennas, typically mounted outdoors. It is necessary to connect the antenna properly to the radio, and there are several types of connectors commonly in use. The three common connectors are F-type, twin-lead, and single screw.Things You'll Need
* Short wave radio
* Antenna with transmission line
* Screwdriver
F-type connectors
1.Line up the connector on the antenna's transmission line with the "Antenna" jack on the rear of the radio. The F-type connector looks like a standard TV cable connector.
2.Push the connector into the radio's antenna jack, making sure that the thin wire in the middle of the connector slides into the small hole in the middle of the jack. Push the connector all the way in.
3.Turn the nut on the connector to the right to start threading the connector onto the threads on the outside of the jack. Turn with your fingers until it's tightly fastened.
4.Loosen the two screws labeled "Antenna" on the back of the radio.
5.Slide the two tabs of the antenna line under the screws, one under each tab.
6.Tighten the screws to hold the tabs in place.
7.Loosen the single screw marked "Antenna" on the back of the radio.
8.Wrap the bare end of the antenna wire around the screw.
9.Tighten the screw to hold the wire in place.
